‘Brotherhood’ by Octavio Paz
এই কবিতাটিতে মূলত ক্লডিয়াস টলেমির প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা ও ভালোবাসা প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। টলেমি ছিলেন এজন গ্রিক জ্যোতির্বিদ ও ভূগোলবিদ।
The substance of the poem: standing under the starry sky, the speaker realizes that he or she is a common man or woman. His or her early existence is finite and bound by time. Life is very short, but the surrounding universe is enormous. Looking up at the night sky, he or she watches the stars that write his or her destiny.
কবিতাটির সারাংশ: তারকাখচিত আকাশের নিচে দাঁড়িয়ে বক্তা বুঝতে পারেন যে তিনি একজন সাধারন পুরুষ অথবা নারী । তার পার্থিব অস্তিত্ব সসীম এবং সময়ের দ্বারা সীমাবদ্ধ । জীবন সংক্ষিপ্ত কিন্তু তার চারপাশে পরিব্যপ্ত মহাবিশ্ব বিপুলায়তন । রাতের আকাশের দিকে তাকিয়ে তিনি সেই সমস্ত তারাদের দেখেন যারা আমাদের ভাগ্য রচনা করে । প্রত্যক্ষ অনুভব এর মাধ্যমে বক্তা উপলব্ধি করেন যে, তার ভাগ্যলিপি পূর্বনির্ধারিত ।ঠিক সেই আত্মোপলব্ধির মুহূর্তে পাঠক তার ভাগ্যলিপি বিস্তারিত ভাবে ব্যাখ্যা করেন।
কবিতাটির কেন্দ্রীয় বিষয়বস্তু : কবিতাটি বিশ্বব্রহ্মাণ্ড ও তার সকল সত্তা সমন্বিতভাবে ক্রিয়াশীল হওয়ার নিরিখে মানুষের তুচ্ছতা কে প্রকাশ করে । চিরন্তন সময়ের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে মানব জীবনের সময়কাল অত্যন্ত ক্ষুদ্র । মানুষের জীবন ও কর্ম কান্ডের নিয়ন্ত্রণকারী মহাজাগতিক নিয়মগুলোকে মানুষ তার যুক্তিবোধের সীমাবদ্ধতার কারণে ব্যাখ্যা করতে অক্ষম । কিন্তু আমরা সকলে ইতিহাসের সঙ্গে এক সূত্রে সম্পর্কিত । প্রত্যেক জীবনের একটি উদ্দেশ্য আছে । এই মহাবিশ্ব এবং মানবতা পরস্পর বিজড়িত । তারা একটি ছন্দ মেনে চলে ,যা তাদের একত্রেই বেঁধে রাখে।
